Ottawa, Ontario (AHN) - A report released Monday by the Ontario Health Coalition took to task the federal government for failure to enforce the Canada Health Act, particularly in regulating for-profit medical clinics.

About 130 such clinics which offer surgery, magnetic resonance imaging and boutique medical services are operating across the country, according to Natalie Mehra of OHC, who wrote the report.

Mehra observed no Canadian province had established regulations to protect Canadians from the two levels of health care in the county.

Among the violations of the Health Act observed by Mehra in five Canadian provinces were extra-billing for necessary medical services and queue jumping services sold for thousands of dollars.
