Miami, Florida, United States (AHN) - Scientists in the Netherlands are researching "anti-hunger" aromas that would make people feel full during meals as a way to combat obesity.

Scientists with NIZO Food Research said their peers had previously studied tastes that would make people feel full while eating, but they studied aromas that would be released as a person chews that would activate areas of the brain that signal fullness.

Their analysis suggests that the release of aromas during chewing does help making someone feel full. They are looking into whether it would be more effective to make foods with these aromas or to create smells that would have a more powerful effect in triggering feelings of fullness, the researchers said in a statement.

The study appears in the American Chemical Society's Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
