New York, NY, United States (AHN) - On his television show broadcast on Tuesday Dr. Oz stated that chemicals in makeup are making people sick.

According to Oz and researchers many cosmetics contain chemicals that  cause health ailments and may be carcinogens :

?   Mineral dust used to make mineral makeup is ten times smaller than it was a decade ago, leading to particles small enough to be inhaled into the lungs. Over time, this can cause scarring, inflammation and lung disease in girls and women

?   Wrinkle creams work by causing skin inflammation that eventually breaks down collagen - leading to more wrinkles down the road

?   Petroleum used in many products including lip gloss (which we swallow) is now being studied for its link to cancer

Some of these substances have been linked to birth defects and even lifelong reproductive impairments. since they are not in jested but only used on the skin.

Some of the side effects linked to the beautifying agents include hair loss, memory loss, anxiety and rollercoaster hormones. After numerous tests on a make-up artist who experienced these symptoms it was determined that her blood contained toxic levels of heavy metals, including aluminum, barium, cadmium lead and mercury as well as high levels of pesticides and other chemicals.

Cosmetic companies say that the level of a harmful chemicals in any one product is not enough to actually cause you any harm. However many medical researchers agree that daily exposure from numerous products over an extended period of time can be detrimental.

When it comes to diseases like cancer, asthma, birth defects and learning disabilities which are on the rise, many speculate that it is being caused by everyday products.

Currently the FDA does not regulate what goes into personal care products so consumers are tasked with ascertaining what they are putting in and on their bodies.
